Maintenance work was performed in the potable water treatment plant of this beautiful city.

The constant flow of water in the plant’s concrete tanks was eroding their surface, with small particles found in the potable water. As the surface layer of the concrete (the most compact area) was destroyed, the surface underneath it was more porous and less smooth.

• the rapid appearance and spread of bacterial flora, requiring enhanced water treatment.
• the increased porosity enabled the water to reach the metal armour on which the concrete had been installed, which was rusting and releasing salts.
