Rehabilitation of medieval tower in Quintana de Valdivielso, Burgos
In the north of the province of Burgos is the Valdivielso Valley, housing the town of Quintana de Valdivielso. In this beautiful setting we find the SAN MARTIN TOWER, also known as the Inquisitor’s Palace. This beautifully built 17th-18th century tower, with its Renaissance cut stone masonry, has a gallery with two large arches on each façade, small decorative cubes on the ends and is crowned with a cantilevered beam.
The coat of arms on the north wall contains the cross of the order of Santiago. It is crowned by a small square billeted coat of arms referring to the inquisition. The helmet indicates that it was an aristocratic home. The tower is being rebuilt and made into magnificent rural tourist accommodation.
