Guipuzcoan entrepreneurs Pedro Zubiaguirre, of Construcciones Moyúa, and Enrique Cerdán, of Icelan Prevención, together with Basques Gaspar Vicinay, of Vicinay Cadenas and Luis Arbulu, property developer, and Alava-based Angel Abalos, of Castellanos y Echevarría, and Emilio Lorenzo, of Zorelor, have been distinguished this year with the Joxe Mari Korta awards in acknowledgement of their entire professional careers. “You are acknowledged as entrepreneurs and business professionals, but also as individuals”, said President Ibarretxe during the award ceremony. . The spirit of Joxe Mari Korta, president of Adegi and himself an entrepreneur, was present throughout the evening. He was remembered by each of the award winners. “With this award he will always be in my memory”, said Pedro Zubiaguirre. This Guipuzcoa-born entrepreneur, who was the president of the Guipuzcoa Builders’ Association for years, led his company to be involved in the construction of most major Basque infrastructures. Emilio Lorenzo, on the other hand, was a pioneer in the implantation of ‘zero waste’ and one of the first to obtain quality certification for his company. In 1969, Angel Abalos established Castellanos y Echevarría, a firm which now has a work force of fifty.
